Enterprise Networking: Multilayer Switching and Applications ReviewI found this book to be quite useful in introducing some emerging areaslike Web Switching and Caching as well as covering familiar areas like the
OSI reference model in the context of switching. The chapter on VLANs helps
explain an area which has seen a lot of interest over the past few years.
"IP Switching and MPLS" is a comprehensive chapter with a lot of detail. I
felt that the two VoIP chapters could have been combined into one. I would
have appreciated some more details in the chapter on emering enterprise
storage systems, especially regarding trends like Storage over IP. The
chapter on security (Chapter 12) would have been more lucid with the
addition of figures. Overall, it is a valuable addition to a network
engineer's library due to the number of issues covered.Enterprise Networking: Multilayer Switching and Applications OverviewPrimarily targeted toward the network or MIS manager who wants to stay abreast of the latest networking technology, Enterprise Networking: Multilayer Switching and Applications offers up to date information relevant for the design of modern corporate networks and for the evaluation of new networking equipment. The book describes the architectures and standards of switching across the various protocol layers and will also address issues such as multicast quality of service, high-availability and network policies that are requirements of modern switched networks. --This text refers to the Digital edition.
