Data Visualization with Flash Builder: Designing RIA and AIR Applications with Remote Data Sources (Visualizing the Web) ReviewFirst, let me say that I am learning a lot pretty quickly with this book. And, with a few tweaks, I imagine that this will become a great intro.
I'm currently working my way through this book (Kindle version) and the author has made it challenging.
Here's an example. Right now, I'm on the first example (Yahoo Finance). There is a section where you use Flex Builder to bind the results of a call to the Yahoo web service to a list control.
The problem is, that author doesn't do a great job of diagramming and explaining that you must make some adjustments in the "Bind to Data" dialog.
Instead of providing a screen shot, he has included the following verbiage:
We are prompted with the last choices:
* Which XML nodes have to populate the list? The answer: the Item node.
* Which part of the Item node has to be shown in the list? The answer: the Title.
I've spent the better part of an hour trying to get past this simple step. If he had simply called out the name of the dialog (Bind to Data) and the fields (Data Provider, Label Field), it would have made it a LOT easier.
