The reason for the quotes is that the idea is not new, however the word "gamification" is and represents the new movement in business. This book really helped me understand the history of the idea and the current state of the field. I think it falls down a bit in that it does not really speak to the other points of view by other proponents/authors such as James Radoff and Michael Wu. I would say that if you want to learn about ramification this is an excellent place to start. For a more rounded education on the subject I would also read "Game On" by James Radoff, "Reality is broken" by Jane McGonigal and "Total engagement" by Byron Reeves and J. Leighton Read.
